Author Guidelines

AJOMS / Academic Journal of Migration Studies is a journal focused on migration and human mobility, promoting interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary approaches. The journal is a scientific, open-access periodical, published independently and impartially through a double-blind peer-review process.

The journal aims to publish empirical original research, reviews, case reports, and book reviews on migration and human mobility in areas such as economics, demography, culture, identity, history, law, politics, social policy, social work, and health.

Submitted articles go through a double-blind peer-review process. Each submission is reviewed by at least two external, independent reviewers who are experts in their fields to ensure an impartial evaluation. The Editor-in-Chief has the final authority in the decision-making process for all submissions.

Editors may require ethics committee approval for research studies. If a submission requires ethics approval (for example, research involving surveys, interviews, focus groups, observations, experiments, or any qualitative or quantitative approaches that involve data collection from participants; studies involving humans or animals for experimental or scientific purposes; clinical studies on humans; animal studies; and retrospective studies in accordance with the Personal Data Protection Law), information regarding the approval (committee name, date, and approval number) should be included on the first page of the article and in the methodology section. The approval document should be submitted to the journal during the article’s online submission. For studies using quantitative research methods, permission must be obtained from the owners of any scales used, and this should be stated in the methodology section. Copyright regulations for intellectual and artistic works must be followed and indicated in the article.

Authors are responsible for the content of their articles and the accuracy of their references. Authors must ensure that the articles have not been previously published or submitted elsewhere for evaluation. A signed author declaration summarizing the responsibilities of all authors and a declaration of no conflict of interest are required. All articles are reviewed by an editor, an assistant editor, and at least two experts/referees.

All articles should be submitted online via the article submission system available on the website. Authors must submit the following:

  • Copyright and Author Agreement
  • Contribution Rate and Conflict of Interest Form (must be completed by all contributing authors)
  • Copyright Transfer Form

AJOMS / Academic Journal of Migration Studies requires the responsible authors to submit a signed and scanned version of the three forms during the initial submission process to protect authorship rights and prevent ghost or honorary authorship. If the Editorial Board suspects "gift authorship," the submission will be rejected without further review. As part of the article submission, the responsible author must also provide a short declaration stating that they accept all authorship-related responsibilities in the submission and review stages of the article.

AJOMS / Academic Journal of Migration Studies requires and encourages authors and individuals involved in the article review process to disclose any existing or potential conflicts of interest that could lead to bias or conflict, including financial, consulting, or institutional relationships. Any financial grants or other support received from individuals or institutions for a submitted work must be disclosed to the Editorial Board. To declare a potential conflict of interest, all contributing authors must complete and submit the Contribution Rate and Conflict of Interest Form.

Authors should contact the editorial office directly for any objections and complaints. If necessary, an ombudsman may be appointed to address cases that cannot be resolved internally. The Editor-in-Chief has the final authority in the decision-making process for all objections and complaints.

Article Review Process: All submissions are subject to a preliminary review for content and format. The review process is conducted confidentially. Articles that do not align with the journal's aims or do not adhere to publication and writing guidelines may be returned to the authors or require revision. If the authors are asked to make corrections, they must resubmit the revised article within 7 days. Articles not resubmitted within this timeframe will be returned.

Articles that pass the preliminary review will be sent to at least two reviewers specializing in the relevant discipline for blind peer review. If one of the reviewers provides a negative assessment, the article will be sent to a third reviewer. If reviewers request revisions, authors must make the necessary corrections within the specified timeframe. During the resubmission of the revised article, a "Response to Reviewers" document should be prepared, explaining the changes made in the manuscript. The final decision is at the discretion of the editor.

Citation Guidelines: Articles must be formatted according to the American Psychological Association (APA) 7th edition. References and in-text citations should be consistent throughout the article.
