Academic Journal of Migration Studies (AJOMS) is committed to maintaining the highest standards of research and publication ethics at every stage of the publication process. The journal adopts as its primary references the Code of Conduct and Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors and the Code of Conduct for Publishers published by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), as well as the recommendations of the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE). The journal also adheres to the Principles of Transparency and Best Practice in Scholarly Publishing developed by COPE and its partner organizations.

For all research involving human participants or animals, and for studies requiring ethics committee approval, the relevant ethics committee approval must be obtained. The article must clearly state the name of the approving institution, approval date, and approval/reference number. Authors must provide documentation of ethics approval upon request by the editors.

Ethical Responsibilities of Authors

The ethical responsibilities of authors submitting manuscripts to AJOMS are based on the recommendations of the ICMJE and the standards established by COPE. Authors are expected to comply with the following principles:

  • Submitted manuscripts must be original and must not have been previously published or simultaneously submitted to another journal for consideration.
  • Authors must not fabricate, falsify, manipulate, or selectively report data or research findings.
  • All sources used in the research must be appropriately and accurately cited, and plagiarism in any form must be avoided.
  • Authorship should be limited to individuals who have made substantial contributions to the conception, design, conduct, analysis, or interpretation of the research and/or to the drafting or critical revision of the manuscript. Ghost authorship and honorary or gift authorship are not permitted. Any addition, removal, or change in the order of authors after submission requires the written consent of all listed authors.
  • Ethics committee approval must be obtained for research requiring such approval, and the relevant approval information must be clearly stated in the manuscript.
  • Any financial, professional, or personal conflicts of interest must be disclosed using the ICMJE Disclosure of Interest form.
  • All sources of financial or institutional support for the research must be clearly acknowledged.
  • If authors discover a significant error or inaccuracy in a published article, they are responsible for promptly notifying the editor and cooperating with the journal in issuing a correction, clarification, or retraction, as appropriate.

Ethical Responsibilities of Reviewers

The ethical responsibilities of reviewers serving AJOMS are based on the COPE Ethical Guidelines for Peer Reviewers. Reviewers are expected to comply with the following principles:

  • Reviewers should accept invitations only when the manuscript falls within their area of expertise and they are able to provide a timely and constructive assessment.
  • All information obtained during the peer-review process, including the content of the manuscript, must be treated as confidential and must not be disclosed to or discussed with third parties or used for personal or professional advantage.
  • Reviews should be objective, constructive, and adequately justified. Personal criticism of the authors must be avoided.
  • Reviewers must promptly inform the editor of any actual, potential, or perceived conflict of interest with respect to the authors, their institutions, or the content of the manuscript and, where appropriate, decline the review invitation.
  • Any suspicion of plagiarism, data fabrication, data falsification, or other forms of research or publication misconduct should be reported confidentially to the editor.
  • If reviewers identify substantial overlap between the manuscript under review and another published or submitted work, they should notify the editor and provide relevant details.

Ethical Responsibilities of Editors

The ethical responsibilities of the editors of AJOMS are based on the COPE Code of Conduct and Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors. Editors are expected to comply with the following principles:

  • Publication decisions must be based on the scientific quality, originality, scholarly contribution, and relevance of the manuscript to the journal's aims and scope. Decisions must not be influenced by the authors' nationality, gender, religion, political views, institutional affiliation, or other personal characteristics.
  • Editors must ensure a fair, impartial, and confidential double-blind peer-review process and must consider potential conflicts of interest when selecting reviewers.
  • Editors must maintain the confidentiality of all information obtained throughout the submission, peer-review, and editorial decision-making processes.
  • Allegations of plagiarism, duplicate or redundant publication, fabrication or falsification of data, inappropriate authorship, or other forms of research or publication misconduct must be investigated in accordance with relevant COPE guidelines and flowcharts. Where appropriate, corrections, clarifications, expressions of concern, or retractions should be issued.
  • For studies requiring ethics committee approval, editors have the right to request documentary evidence of the relevant approval from the authors.
  • When an editor has a conflict of interest in relation to a submitted manuscript, the editorial decision-making process must be assigned to another editor who has no such conflict.
