Submissions
Author Guidelines
Submissions to AJOMS / Academic Journal of Migration Studies are accepted through the DergiPark system in both Turkish and English. The submitted works must adhere to academic writing and grammar rules. The work must be original and must not have been published or submitted for publication elsewhere. Since the article will be reviewed under a double-blind peer review process, no information that may reveal the identity of the authors (such as names, affiliations, etc.) should be included in the main manuscript file.
Ethics Committee Approval: If a submitted article requires ethics committee approval (such as research involving surveys, interviews, focus groups, observations, experiments, or any qualitative or quantitative approach involving data collection from participants; research where humans and animals are used for experimental or scientific purposes; clinical studies involving humans; animal studies; or retrospective studies in accordance with the Law on the Protection of Personal Data), information regarding the approval (the name of the committee, date, and approval number) must be provided on the first page of the article and in the methods section. The approval document must be uploaded during the submission of the manuscript. For studies using quantitative research methods, permission must be obtained from the owners of any scales used, and this must be stated in the methods section. Copyright regulations for intellectual and artistic works must be adhered to and indicated in the article. It must also be declared that research and publication ethics have been followed in all submitted works.
Article Format: The journal accepts empirical original research, reviews, case reports, and book reviews. Submissions must not exceed a total of 10,000 words, including references and abstract. Articles should be submitted as Word documents (.doc or .docx). They should be written in 12-point Times New Roman font, with justified alignment, 1.25 cm paragraph indentation, 6 pt space before and after paragraphs, and 1.5 line spacing. Pages should be A4 size with 2.5 cm margins on all sides. If additional information is to be provided in the text, it can be indicated in footnotes. Footnotes should not be used for citing references. Footnotes must be numbered consecutively and written in 8-point font with single line spacing.
Articles should include the following sections: Turkish title, Turkish abstract (150-250 words), Turkish keywords (3-6 keywords), English title, English abstract (150-250 words), English keywords (3-6 keywords), Introduction, Conceptual Framework, Methodology, Results, Discussion, Conclusion, and References. After the conclusion section, an author contribution statement, acknowledgment (if applicable), and a conflict of interest statement should be included. For articles written in Turkish, an extended English summary (750-1000 words) should be provided after the references.
Main section headings (Level 1 headings) should be left-aligned, bold, and written in all capital letters. Level 2 headings should be left-aligned, bold, with each word capitalized. Level 3 headings should be left-aligned, italicized, with each word capitalized. Headings should be numbered starting from the introduction (e.g., 1., 1.1., 1.1.1.).
Title Page: A title page is required for all submissions. The title page should include the title of the article, the full names and titles of all authors, their affiliations, contact details, and ORCID numbers. If the work is supported by a project, derived from a thesis, or presented at a conference, this should be indicated.
Tables, Figures, and Graphs: Tables, figures, and graphs should be numbered and titled. Table titles should appear above the table, and figure/graph titles should appear below. Tables, figures, and graphs should be centered on the page. Text within tables should be in 8-point font, and the content should be editable rather than inserted as images.
Similarity Report: During submission, a similarity report generated using Turnitin or iThenticate must be uploaded. Manuscripts with a similarity rate exceeding 15% will not be accepted for review.
Copyright Agreement: The copyrights of articles submitted to the Academic Journal of Migration Studies belong to the journal. The Copyright Agreement must be completed, signed, and submitted as a .pdf file along with the manuscript.
Conflict of Interest: All authors are required to declare any conflicts of interest. If there are no conflicts to declare, this should be stated on the title page.
Funding: If the manuscript has received funding or support from a project, this should be indicated on the title page, specifying the type of project and the project code.
Acknowledgments: If there are any acknowledgments or names to be mentioned in the acknowledgment section, they should be stated clearly.
Author Contribution Rates: The contributions of each author to the article must be stated. For example: "Author 1's contribution to the article is %...," and "Author 2's contribution is %...".

Article Review Process: All submissions are subject to a preliminary review for content and format. The review process is conducted confidentially. Articles that do not align with the journal's aims or do not adhere to publication and writing guidelines may be returned to the authors or require revision. If the authors are asked to make corrections, they must resubmit the revised article within 7 days. Articles not resubmitted within this timeframe will be returned.
Articles that pass the preliminary review will be sent to at least two reviewers specializing in the relevant discipline for blind peer review. If one of the reviewers provides a negative assessment, the article will be sent to a third reviewer. If reviewers request revisions, authors must make the necessary corrections within the specified timeframe. During the resubmission of the revised article, a "Response to Reviewers" document should be prepared, explaining the changes made in the manuscript. The final decision is at the discretion of the editor.
Citation Guidelines: Articles must be formatted according to the American Psychological Association (APA) 7th edition. References and in-text citations should be consistent throughout the article.
In-Text Citation Usage in Turkish and English
• In Turkish in-text citations, "ve" should be used between authors, whereas "&" is used in English in-text citations.
Example:
(Ekici ve Tuncel, 2015, s.150)
• When there are more than two authors, "vd." should follow the first author's name in Turkish, and "et al." should be used in English.
Example:
(Günay vd., 2017, s.48)
(Murzakulova et al., 2023, p.697)
• If citing multiple sources in parentheses, the citations should be listed alphabetically by the authors' last names.
Example:
(Çağlayan, 2006; Deniz, 2014; Massey et al., 2014; Sağlam, 2006)
• For authors with the same last name, the initials of the first names should also be included in in-text citations to distinguish them.
Example:
(M. Beckmann, 2013)
(W. Beckmann, 2013)
• When citing institutional sources with abbreviations, the full name of the institution should be given in the first citation, followed by the abbreviation in square brackets. In subsequent citations, only the abbreviation should be used.
Example:
First citation: (World Health Organization [WHO], 2010)
Subsequent citation: (WHO, 2010)
• For secondary sources, only the source being cited should be mentioned.
Example:
(as cited in Nicholson, 2003)
(as cited in Agrios, 2005)
• When citing multiple works by the same author from the same year, add "a," "b," "c" after the year based on the order of citation in the text.
Example:
(Yang & Harris, 2010a)
(Yang & Harris, 2010b)
(Göktan, 2012a)
(Göktan, 2012b)
References:
• References should be listed alphabetically by the authors' last names. If an author has multiple works, list them in order from the earliest to the most recent publication date. Each entry should be in hanging indent format. If a source has a DOI number, it must be provided.
