Abstract

Migration is particularly more challenging for disadvantaged groups such as the elderly, people with disabilities, children, and women. Female migrants must deal with limitations imposed by gender norms, as well as additional risks associated with the migration process. Economic instability, legal uncertainties, language barriers, and social discrimination significantly hinder women's access to healthcare services.

Throughout the migration process, women's reproductive health, mental health, and overall well-being are negatively affected. Housing issues, nutritional deficiencies, and inadequate hygiene further exacerbate risks to women's physical health. Limitations in accessing prenatal and postnatal care services pose serious threats to the health of both mothers and babies. The inadequacy of health policies in host countries, economic vulnerability, language barriers, and social exclusion prevent women from fully benefiting from healthcare services.

This study examines the multifaceted effects of migration on women's access to healthcare services. It aims to identify the structural barriers that affect female migrants' access to healthcare and to analyze the factors involved in this process. Special attention is given to the challenges faced by Syrian migrant women in Turkey when accessing healthcare services, and policy recommendations to address these challenges are discussed. The study emphasizes the need to develop policies that reduce cultural and language barriers, provide economic support mechanisms, and promote gender equality to improve women's access to healthcare services. Access to healthcare for migrant women is not only an individual issue but also a critical global public health concern that must be addressed.
